

The printer will see that it is not a color cartridge and refuses to read or use it. Insert a black cartridge in the color slot will not have to act as a backup cartridge. You can find on the feature by clicking on this link, but I'm not positive how useful it will be for you. Grayscale is more useful for printers that have four or more cartridges.
