For mine like the bill boards in my wip terrain post i just used a normal ink jet, scaled the image down the the dimensions i needed spread some pva glue all over the back of it pressed it flat against the surface i wanted it to go (in my case it was painted MDF but plastic will work just as well), smooth it out with the same brush to make sure there where no air bubbles or anything that would cause problems later on, went over the rest of the paper so all of it was covered left it over night to dry, (this part is optional depending on the look you want, hit it with a brown wash to blend it in with the terrain) then once that is all dry and i am happy with the result i then gave it a coat of spray gloss varnish, then another coat of matt varnish to get rid of the shine.
